I’ve been learning more and more into shooting film. I love the imperfections, graininess, and soft golden hues on the Kodak Gold. They feel so raw, and emotive because the images aren’t perfect. There is also something to be said about the process of shooting 35mm film photos. You have to be so intentional about every single photo you take. You only have 36 exposure and when you are taking them you have no idea how they are going to turn out. Were the setting right? What my subject in focus? Its truly a mystery until you get your scans back.
As soon as i’m done shoot a roll, I immediately go to PhotoVision to purchase a signature package to have my film developed. I quickly mail it in and anxiously watch the tracking info to see when it arrives at their location in Portland, OR. The next 3-5 days I cant wait to get the “Your Order is Complete” email! It truly is like Christmas morning when I get to look at all of my scanned images. Each one is so perfect in its on way.
If you’ve never shot film before and want to try, feel free to reach out! I am still learning all the tricks myself, but i’m happy to help you if I can! I shoot with a canon AE-1 that I purchased from Perfect Image Camera in Lancaster, PA. Some of my favorite 35mm film stock to shoot with is the Kodak Gold 200, Kodka Portra 400 rated at 200, and Ilford XP2 Super for Black and White Photos.
Happy shooting 🙂
